I am passionate and skilled in helping you navigate and resolve conflict, relationship struggles and have experience working with several types of mental health concerns or diagnoses.

I describe my therapeutic model as feedback-oriented & ‘solution-focused’. My clinical training has involved Motivational Interviewing, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

I incorporate a variety of counseling approaches in my practice including CBT, strength based, acceptance and commitment therapy as well as mindfulness and self-regulation techniques. I use a trauma informed approach to my practice to create a safe, authentic and comfortable space for individuals as they move through their own unique journey.

My private practice is focused on adults over the age of 50 as I believe that this age group is often overlooked when it comes to counseling support and services and yet it is a significant time in people’s lives where they experience many transitions, changes and personal growth.

Due to lived experience of mental health concerns and oppression of various levels, I am passionate about helping people grow in many aspect of their lives.

I care deeply about social issues and how it impact vulnerable people such as children, immigrants/refugees, women, BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, poverty, the homeless, oppressed, and those incarcerated.

I enjoy working with people, especially Black Indigenous Persons of Colour (BIPOC), on the topic of mental health/illness and its intersectionality with gender, race, sexuality, age, disability, immigration/socio-economic status, and oppression.

Alan comes to the organization with over 17 years’ experience serving adults and youth in the community with barriers and/or disabilities find and maintain employment. Alan has direct education related to the field of employment advisement. Alan achieved his Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional designation in 2022 as well the Employment Supports Specialty Advanced Certificate in 2017.

This allows Alan to approach vocational services with a professional lens and provide career guidance with client centric approach. Alan works from a place of where the individual is at. Using varying strategies derived from the vocational rehabilitation discipline Alan utilizes the following career advising techniques:

CAREER EXPLORATION: Alan helps individuals identify their interests, skills, and values, and explore different career paths. Utilizing career assessment resources such as the Strong Interest Inventory Alan will work through strategies to help you explore varying career options that will fit you and your unique situation.

GOAL SETTING: Alan can assist you in setting realistic and achievable career goals. By looking at the right career fit that meets your unique personal needs as well as opening possibilities in career roles you may not realize were suited for you.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Alan will provide guidance on where you may need to develop skills and connecting you with knowledge needed for their chosen career path. This may include helping you research where to find; general up grading, looking into post-secondary schools, or utilizing community-based programs for general work-related certification.

JOB SEARCH: Alan can assist you to find and apply for jobs, write resumes, cover letters and help prepare you for interviews. This will include a short one to one interview and using national occupational codes to find out what is available in the local labor market.

CAREER TRANSITIONS: Alan can support you through a career changes and transitions. Often having a trained professional walk the transitional path with you is helpful. Alan can work on strategies with you as you work through this move towards your goal
